Cakupan pengkajian yang disebut sebagai sejarah matematika adalah terutama berupa penyelidikan terhadap asal muasal temuan baru di dalam matematika, di dalam ruang lingkup yang lebih sempit berupa penyelidikan terhadap metode dan notasi matematika baku di masa silam.

Evolusi matematika dapat dipandang sebagai sederetan abstraksi yang selalu bertambah banyak, atau perkataan lainnya perluasan pokok masalah. Abstraksi pertama, yang dibagi oleh banyak binatang[10], adalah tentang bilangan: pernyataan bahwa dua apel dan dua jeruk (sebagai contoh) memiliki jumlah yang sama.

Selain mengetahui cara cacah objek-objek fisika, manusia prasejarah juga mengenali cara mencacah besaran abstrak, seperti waktu — hari, musim, tahun. Aritmetika dasar (pertambahan, perkurangan, perkalian, dan perbagian) mengikuti secara alami.





Langkah selanjutnya memerlukan penulisan atau sistem lain untuk mencatatkan bilangan, semisal tali atau dawai bersimpul yang disebut quipu dipakai oleh bangsa Inca untuk menyimpan data numerik. Sebelum zaman modern dan pengetahuan mendunia, contoh-contoh tertulis dari pengembangan matematika yang baru telah mencapai kemilaunya hanya di beberapa tempat. Sistem bilangan ada banyak dan bermacam-macam, bilangan tertulis yang pertama diketahui ada di dalam naskah warisan Mesir Kuno di Kerajaan Tengah Mesir yaitu Lembaran Matematika Rhind (1650 SM). Peradaban lembah Indus mengembangkan sistem desimal modern, termasuk konsep nol. Tulisan matematika terkuno lainnya yang pernah ditemukan adalah Plimpton 322 (Matematika Babilonia yang berangka tahun 1900 SM), Lembaran Matematika Moskow (Matematika Mesir yang berangka tahun 1850 SM), dan Shulba Sutra (Matematika India yang berangka tahun 800 SM). Semua tulisan yang bersangkutan memusatkan perhatian kepada apa yang biasa dikenal sebagai Teorema Pythagoras, yang kelihatannya sebagai hasil pembangunan matematika yang paling kuno dan tersebar luas setelah aritmetika dasar dan geometri.

Penemuan-penemuan matematika dibuat sepanjang sejarah dan berlanjut hingga kini. Menurut Mikhail B. Sevryuk, pada Januari 2006 terbitan Buletin Masyarakat Matematika Amerika, "Banyaknya makalah dan buku yang dilibatkan di dalam basis dataMathematical Reviews sejak 1940 (tahun pertama beroperasinya MR) kini melebihi 1,9 juta, dan melebihi 75 ribu artikel ditambahkan ke dalam basis data itu tiap tahun. Sebagian besar karya di samudera ini berisi teorema matematika baru beserta bukti-buktinya."

AKIBAT ROKOK

Akibat negatif dari rokok, sesungguhnya sudah mulai terasa pada waktu orang baru mulai menghisap rokok. Dalam asap rokok yang membara karena diisap, tembakau terbakar kurang sempurna sehingga menghasilkan CO (karbon mono oksida), yang disamping asapnya sendiri, tar dan nikotine (yang terjadi juga dari pembakaran tembakau tersebut) dihirup masuk ke dalam jalan napas.

CO, Tar, dan Nikotin tersebut berpengaruh terhadap syaraf yang menyebabkan :
- Gelisah, tangan gemetar (tremor)
- Cita rasa / selera makan berkurang
- Ibu-ibu hamil yang suka merokok dapat kemungkinan keguguran kandungannya

Tar dan Asap Rokok
Tar dan asap rokok merangsang jalan napas, dan tar tersebut tertimbun disaluran itu yang menyebabkan :
- Batuk-batuk atau sesak napas
- Tar yang menempel di jalan napas dapat menyebabkan kanker jalan napas,
lidah atau bibir

Nikotin
Nikotin merangsang bangkitnya adrenalin hormon dari anak ginjal yang menyebabkan :
- Jantung berdebar-debar
- Meningkatkan tekanan darah serta kadar kholesterol dalam darah,
tang erat dengan terjadinya serangan jantung

Gas CO (Karbon Mono Oksida)
Gas CO juga berpengaruh negatif terhadap jalan napas dari pembuluh darah.
Karbon mono oksida lebih mudah terikat pada hemoglobin daripada oksigen
Oleh sebab itu, darah orang yang kemasukan CO banyak, akan berkurang daya angkutnya bagi oksigen dan orang dapat meninggal dunia karena keracunan karbon mono oksida. Pada seorang perokok tidak akan sampai terjadi keracunan CO, namun pengaruh CO yang dihirup oleh perokok dengan sedikit demi sedikit, dengan lambat namun pasti akan berpengaruh negatif pada jalan napas dan pada pembuluh darah.

Zodiak (dari kata Yunani Zoodiacos Cyclos yang artinya Lingkaran Hewan) adalah sebuah sabuk khayal di langit dengan lebar 18° yang berpusat pada lingkaran ekliptika[1], tetapi istilah ini dapat pula merujuk pada rasi-rasi bintang yang dilewati oleh sabuk tersebut, yang sekarang berjumlah 13. Dipercaya awal mula konsep ini berasal dari peradaban Lembah Sungai Eufrat kemungkinan hanya dengan enam rasi, Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricornus, dan Pisces, yang kemudian dipecah menjadi 12 karena penampakan tahunan 12 kali Bulan purnama pada bagian-bagian berurutan dari sabuk tersebut[2].

Di bola langit terdapat garis khayal yang disebut dengan lingkaran ekliptika. Jika diamati dari bumi, semua benda tatasurya (planet, Bulan dan Matahari) beredar di langit mengelilingi lingkaran ekliptika. Keistimewaan dari keduabelas zodiak dibanding rasi bintang lainnya adalah semuanya berada di wilayah langit yang memotong lingkaran ekliptika. Jadi dapat disimpulkan zodiak adalah semua rasi bintang yang berada disepanjang lingkaran ekliptika. Rasi-rasi bintang tersebut adalah:

Capricornus: Kambing laut, Matahari berada di depan rasi ini selama 21 Jan - 16 Feb (26 hari)
Aquarius: Pembawa Air, Matahari berada di depan rasi ini selama 16 Feb - 11 Mar (24 hari)
Pisces: Ikan, Matahari berada di depan rasi ini selama 11 Mar - 18 Apr (38 hari)

Leukemia (kanker darah) adalah jenis penyakit kanker yang menyerang sel-sel darah putih yang diproduksi oleh sumsum tulang (bone marrow). Sumsum tulang atau bone marrow ini dalam tubuh manusia memproduksi tiga type sel darah diantaranya sel darah putih (berfungsi sebagai daya tahan tubuh melawan infeksi), sel darah merah (berfungsi membawa oxygen kedalam tubuh) dan platelet (bagian kecil sel darah yang membantu proses pembekuan darah).


Leukemia umumnya muncul pada diri seseorang sejak dimasa kecilnya, Sumsum tulang tanpa diketahui dengan jelas penyebabnya telah memproduksi sel darah putih yang berkembang tidak normal atau abnormal. Normalnya, sel darah putih me-reproduksi ulang bila tubuh memerlukannya atau ada tempat bagi sel darah itu sendiri. Tubuh manusia akan memberikan tanda/signal secara teratur kapankah sel darah diharapkan be-reproduksi kembali.

Pada kasus Leukemia (kanker darah), sel darah putih tidak merespon kepada tanda/signal yang diberikan. Akhirnya produksi yang berlebihan tidak terkontrol (abnormal) akan keluar dari sumsum tulang dan dapat ditemukan di dalam darah perifer atau darah tepi. Jumlah sel darah putih yang abnormal ini bila berlebihan dapat mengganggu fungsi normal sel lainnya, Seseorang dengan kondisi seperti ini (Leukemia) akan menunjukkan beberapa gejala seperti; mudah terkena penyakit infeksi, anemia dan perdarahan.


Penyakit Leukemia Akut dan Kronis
Leukemia akut ditandai dengan suatu perjalanan penyakit yang sangat cepat, mematikan, dan memburuk. Apabila hal ini tidak segera diobati, maka dapat menyebabkan kematian dalam hitungan minggu hingga hari. Sedangkan leukemia kronis memiliki perjalanan penyakit yang tidak begitu cepat sehingga memiliki harapan hidup yang lebih lama, hingga lebih dari 1 tahun.


Leukemia diklasifikasikan berdasarkan jenis sel
Ketika pada pemeriksaan diketahui bahwa leukemia mempengaruhi limfosit atau sel limfoid, maka disebut leukemia limfositik. Sedangkan leukemia yang mempengaruhi sel mieloid seperti neutrofil, basofil, dan eosinofil, disebut leukemia mielositik.

Dari klasifikasi ini, maka Leukemia dibagi menjadi empat type sebutan;
1. Leukemia limfositik akut (LLA). Merupakan tipe leukemia paling sering terjadi pada anak-anak. Penyakit ini juga terdapat pada dewasa yang terutama telah berumur 65 tahun atau lebih.
2. Leukemia mielositik akut (LMA). Ini lebih sering terjadi pada dewasa daripada anak-anak. Tipe ini dahulunya disebut leukemia nonlimfositik akut.
3. Leukemia limfositik kronis (LLK). Hal ini sering diderita oleh orang dewasa yang berumur lebih dari 55 tahun. Kadang-kadang juga diderita oleh dewasa muda, dan hampir tidak ada pada anak-anak.
4. Leukemia mielositik kronis (LMK) sering terjadi pada orang dewasa. Dapat juga terjadi pada anak-anak, namun sangat sedikit.


Penyebab Penyakit Leukemia
Sampai saat ini penyebab penyakit leukemia belum diketahui secara pasti, akan tetapi ada beberapa faktor yang diduga mempengaruhi frekuensi terjadinya leukemia.
1. Radiasi. Hal ini ditunjang dengan beberapa laporan dari beberapa riset yang menangani kasus Leukemia bahwa Para pegawai radiologi lebih sering menderita leukemia, Penerita dengan radioterapi lebih sering menderita leukemia, Leukemia ditemukan pada korban hidup kejadian bom atom Hiroshima dan Nagasaki, Jepang.

2. Leukemogenik. Beberapa zat kimia dilaporkan telah diidentifikasi dapat mempengaruhi frekuensi leukemia, misalnya racun lingkungan seperti benzena, bahan kimia inustri seperti insektisida, obat-obatan yang digunakan untuk kemoterapi.

3. Herediter. Penderita Down Syndrom memiliki insidensi leukemia akut 20 kali lebih besar dari orang normal.

4. Virus. Beberapa jenis virus dapat menyebabkan leukemia, seperti retrovirus, virus leukemia feline, HTLV-1 pada dewasa.


Tanda dan Gejala Penyakit Leukemia
Gejala Leukemia yang ditimbulkan umumnya berbeda diantara penderita, namun demikian secara umum dapat digambarkan sebagai berikut:
1. Anemia. Penderita akan menampakkan cepat lelah, pucat dan bernafas cepat (sel darah merah dibawah normal menyebabkan oxygen dalam tubuh kurang, akibatnya penderita bernafas cepat sebagai kompensasi pemenuhan kekurangan oxygen dalam tubuh).

2. Perdarahan. Ketika Platelet (sel pembeku darah) tidak terproduksi dengan wajar karena didominasi oleh sel darah putih, maka penderita akan mengalami perdarahan dijaringan kulit (banyaknya jentik merah lebar/kecil dijaringan kulit).

3. Terserang Infeksi. Sel darah putih berperan sebagai pelindung daya tahan tubuh, terutama melawan penyakit infeksi. Pada Penderita Leukemia, sel darah putih yang diterbentuk adalah tidak normal (abnormal) sehingga tidak berfungsi semestinya. Akibatnya tubuh si penderita rentan terkena infeksi virus/bakteri, bahkan dengan sendirinya akan menampakkan keluhan adanya demam, keluar cairan putih dari hidung (meler) dan batuk.

4. Nyeri Tulang dan Persendian. Hal ini disebabkan sebagai akibat dari sumsum tulang (bone marrow) mendesak padat oleh sel darah putih.

5. Nyeri Perut. Nyeri perut juga merupakan salah satu indikasi gejala leukemia, dimana sel leukemia dapat terkumpul pada organ ginjal, hati dan empedu yang menyebabkan pembesaran pada organ-organ tubuh ini dan timbulah nyeri. Nyeri perut ini dapat berdampak hilangnya nafsu makan penderita leukemia.

6. Pembengkakan Kelenjar Lympa. Penderita kemungkinan besar mengalami pembengkakan pada kelenjar lympa, baik itu yang dibawah lengan, leher, dada dan lainnya. Kelenjar lympa bertugas menyaring darah, sel leukemia dapat terkumpul disini dan menyebabkan pembengkakan.

7. Kesulitan Bernafas (Dyspnea). Penderita mungkin menampakkan gejala kesulitan bernafas dan nyeri dada, apabila terjadi hal ini maka harus segera mendapatkan pertolongan medis.


Diagnosa Penyakit Leukemia (Kanker Darah)
Penyakit Leukemia dapat dipastikan dengan beberapa pemeriksaan, diantaranya adalah ; Biopsy, Pemeriksaan darah {complete blood count (CBC)}, CT or CAT scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, Ultrasound, Spinal tap/lumbar puncture.


Penanganan dan Pengobatan Leukemia
Penanganan kasus penyakit Leukemia biasanya dimulai dari gejala yang muncul, seperti anemia, perdarahan dan infeksi. Secara garis besar penanganan dan pengobatan Leukemia bisa dilakukan dengan cara single ataupun gabungan dari beberapa metode dibawah ini:

1. Chemotherapy/intrathecal medications
2. Therapy Radiasi. Metode ini sangat jarang sekali digunakan
3. Transplantasi bone marrow (sumsum tulang)
4. Pemberian obat-obatan tablet dan suntik
5. Transfusi sel darah merah atau platelet.

Sistem Therapi yang sering digunakan dalam menangani penderita leukemia adalah kombinasi antara Chemotherapy (kemoterapi) dan pemberian obat-obatan yang berfokus pada pemberhentian produksi sel darah putih yang abnormal dalam bone marrow. Selanjutnya adalah penanganan terhadap beberapa gejala dan tanda yang telah ditampakkan oleh tubuh penderita dengan monitor yang komprehensive.

The Hannah Montana Movie is a planned film adaptation of the American television series Hannah Montana, to be released in theaters. It has been confirmed by Mitchel Musso, Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus. Filming began in April 2008, much of it occcurring in Columbia, Tennessee, and Los Angeles, California. The film will be released on May 1, 2009.

On the April 2 episode of her "The Miley & Mandy Show" series on YouTube, Miley spoke to Ryan Seacrest and she spoke on flying to Tennessee in "[two] weeks" and would be staying for several months. She went to say there would be many guest stars, and herself riding horses and attending school.

1. Tidak Sok Kenal Sok Dekat / SKSD
Dalam berkenalan tidak harus dimulai dengan memperkenalkan diri, tetapi bisa melalui basa-basi yang baik dan sopan. Yang pasti kita harus merendah walaupun lawan bicara lebih muda usia dari kita. Berbicara seperlunya, tidak bertele-tele, membanggakan diri, narsis, jutek, sok tau, dsb. Bersikaplah sederhana apa adanya dan jangan membanggakan materi / kekayaan yang kita miliki.

2. Tidak Pilih-Pilih Teman
Terkadang orang yang kaya akan merasa risih jika bergaul dengan orang-orang miskin, orang yang tidak berpendidikan, orang yang memiliki tampang kriminil, dsb. Justru pertemanan orang-orang kecil terkadang sifatnya lebih kekal jujur apa adanya tanpa pamrih. Jika kita berteman dengan orang elit yang suka pamer, foya-foya, hidup gelamor, dsb mungkin akan meninggalkan kita ketika kita menjadi miskin atau pun jika kita terkena musibah mereka enggan turun langsung membantu kita karena kesibukan mereka. Jangan ragu berteman dengan tukang bakso, tukang ojek, ibu-ibu, nenek-nenek, anak kecil, penjaga warung, tukang sampah, tukang sayur, satpam, dsb karena mungkin suatu saat kita membutuhkan bantuan mereka. Ketika kita sedang kesulitan pun meraka akan dengan senagn hati menawarkan bantuan mereka secara cuma-cuma.

3. Aktif Kegiatan Sosial Dan Membantu Sesama
Jika anda orang islam maka rajin-rajinlah ikut shalat berjamaah di masjid atau mushola di sekitar anda. Jika ada kerja bhakti di lingkangan tempat tinggal ada maka sebaiknya anda ikut berperan serta ambil bagian. Selain itu juga ada acara-acara sosial lain yang sangat baik untuk anda ikuti seperti posyandu, kepengurusan rt, karang taruna, pengajian, pemberantasan sarang nyamuk psn, perlombaan peringatan 17 agustusan, arisan, dan masih banyak lagi lainnya. Jangan sungkan bantu secara langsung tetangga, teman, saudara, rekan kerja, dll yang sedang kesusahan karena mereka akan merasa senang sekali jika ada yang membantu dan mereka pun akan sangat senang jika dapat membantu kita di kemudian hari. Tolak segera jika mereka meminta bantuan yang tidak wajar seperti minta bantuan merampok bank, mencarikan jablay, corat-coret tembok orang, ngerjain guru/dosen, dsb.

4. Sopan Santun, Ramah, Rendah Hati Dan Mengalah
Dalam bersosial kita akan senang jika orang lain sopan, ramah, rendah hati, dsb. Begitupun dengan orang lain yang sudah pasti akan senang hati dapat berteman dengan orang yang memiliki sifat-sifat di atas. Sotoy, narsis, sombong, membual, kikir, munapik, dll adalah sifat-sifat yang akan menimbulkan nilai negatif di mata orang lain sehingga mereka akan enggan untuk untuk berteman akrab dengan kita serta menghasilkan antipati di mata orang-orang.

5. Jangan Membuat Musuh
Hindarilah sifat-sifat yang dapat menghadirkan musuh ke hadapan kehidupan kita seperti iri, dengki, sombong, congkak, angkuh, sok berkuasa, sok kaya, munafik, pelit, culas, egois, keras kepala, dsb. Selain itu hindari minuman keras, narkoba dan kawan-kawan agar terhindar dari dijauhi orang. Ramah, santun, rendah hati, mengalah, dll dapat menghindarkan kita dari permusuhan. Selesaikan segala masalah problema kehidupan sosial yang ada dengan tuntas secara baik-baik agar tidak berkepanjangan dan menimbulkan permusuhan.

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series of thirteen novels written by Lemony Snicket, and illustrated by Brett Helquist. It is about the adventures of three children, the Baudelaire orphans, after the death of their parents in a fire. The setting of the series is anachronistic, and throughout the series there are many literary and cultural allusions. A film adaptation of the first three books in the series was released on December 17, 2004, as Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events,which also had a video game adaptation of the same name based on it.Audio books have been released which included songs by The Gothic Archies, and a compilation album of the songs has also been released.

The series follows the adventures of three siblings, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, after their parents were killed in a fire at the family mansion. In The Bad Beginning, they briefly live with a friend of their parents, Mr. Poe, who is the person in charge of the Baudelaire fortune after the Baudelaire parents' deaths, before being sent to live with Count Olaf, whom Mr. Poe describes as either the siblings' "third cousin four times removed, or their fourth cousin three times removed". The siblings discover that he intends to get his hands on the enourmous Baudelaire fortune, which awaits Violet, the eldest child, when she turns eighteen.[5] In the first seven books, Olaf, each time in different disguises, follows the children wherever they go so he can get closer to the orphans and steal their fortune. Their roles switch in the eighth through twelfth books, in which the orphans adopt disguises while on the run from the police after being framed by Count Olaf, disguised as Detective Dupin, for the murder of Count Omar (really Jacques Snicket). The Baudelaires routinely try to get help from Mr. Poe, but Poe is always either busy with work, oblivious to the danger Olaf poses, unaware that the disguised Olaf is not who he claims to be or simply thinks the Baudelaires are lying.

Each of the three siblings has a distinctive skill that often helps them during their adventures. Violet is always inventing new things to help them, Klaus is always finding out new information by reading books, and Sunny has extremely sharp teeth that can bite almost anything in half.In later books, Sunny learns how to cook, as she begins to grow to the normal size for her teeth so cooking becomes her primary skill. Sunny originally spoke in single word utterances which are often a variety of incomplete sentences, and some short word sentences as well. Their meaning is either disguised by being spelled phonetically (e.g., 'surchmi' in The Slippery Slope), backwards (e.g., 'edasurc' [crusade] in The Carnivorous Carnival) through cultural references (Sunny says: 'Matahari', followed by a definition of 'If I stay, I can spy on them and find out.'), or being written in other languages (e.g., Shalom or Sayonara), but eventually she begins to speak more in complete English sentences, her first possibly being "I'm not a baby" in The Slippery Slope,or "Like me" in The Vile Village.

Lemony Snicket, the author of the stories and the pseudonym of Daniel Handler, is actually a character himself on the periphery of the stories. He follows the Baudelaires, researching and recording their exploits. Bruce Butt noted in 2002 that in each book a letter from Snicket to his editor is included, presented as exciting updates on Snicket's research into the Baudelaire orphans, which Butt considered to be "the most sly aspect of the way this series has been ingeniously promoted".Over the course of the series, the Baudelaires learn some vague information about Snicket and possibly meet him briefly in The Wide Window and The Penultimate Peril.

Saving Jane originally began when Dodson and Buzzard worked together in music. They contacted a drummer, Dak Goodman, to help them record a song.After that, they decided to start a band by borrowing a bass player from another band and by booking a few shows. Due to some issues between the bassist and drummer, they decided against the borrowed bassist. Joe Cochran was introduced to the band by a mutual friend, but according to the band's myspace Joe is no longer with the band as of early 2007. In February 2006, Mike Ungar stepped down from Saving Jane for family reasons, and Brandon Hagan joined the band as a replacement. Also as of 2008, Jeremy Martin is no longer with the band. The new bassist is Eric Flores.

Saving Jane's debut album, entitled Girl Next Door, was released in October, 2005. After major radio play of the single of the same name, Universal Records picked them up. The album was re-released with 2 new tracks in April, 2006.[citation needed]

On August 7, 2007, Saving Jane's follow up album to Girl Next Door is set to be released with the title One Girl Revolution. A single with the same title is slated for a summer 2007 release.

Awalnya Fenoglio tidak percaya dengan penjelasan Mo. Dia tidak bersedia membantu mereka mengalahkan Capricorn yang kejam. Namun setelah diyakinkan, Fenoglio berubah pikiran.

Ternyata, si kecil Meggie punya kemampuan seperti sang ayah. Tanpa sengaja, Meggie mengeluarkan tokoh Tinker Bell dari dalam buku cerita Peter Pan. Capricorn senang sekali mendengar hal itu. Dia segera memutuskan bahwa Meggie juga harus membantu menjalankan misi menguasai dunia.

The Story Behind Gone With The Wind


Margaret Mitchell had always been physically active but fragile. When she fell from a horse in 1920, it was the first of a series of mishaps which ultimately forced her in 1926 to resign from her job as a newspaper reporter at The Atlanta Journal.

She began a long convalescence in the cramped, one bedroom apartment on Crescent Avenue she had nicknamed “The Dump.” Laid up and restless, Margaret devoured the books brought to her from the Atlanta library by her husband John Marsh.

“John came home one day with an arm full of books and he said ‘I have brought you all of the books that I think you can handle from the library,’ “Augusta Dearborn, a family friend, recalled. “Then he said, ‘I wish you would write one yourself.’”

Marsh’s next delivery to Margaret was a Remington typewriter, accompanied by the salute: “Madam, I greet you on the beginning of a new career.” When Margaret asked her husband what she should write about, he responded, as editors have always responded, “Write what you know.”

Recalling the stories told her by her family and Confederate veterans, Margaret Mitchell set to work – in secret. Few people knew she was writing a book, and only John Marsh was allowed to read it as it progressed.

Margaret’s biographer, Darden Asbury Pyron, says that writing at “The Dump” could be a claustrophobic experience: “She had no place to work. It was a small apartment, and she had no study. So, she’d work in the bedroom. She’d work in the kitchen. She’d work in the hallway. She was all over the place.”

Because the Crescent Avenue apartment was the ceaselessly busy “hangout” for John and Margaret’s eclectic circle of friends, she had to take great pains to hide the manuscript – shoving manila folders full of manuscript under the bed, under the sofa, and even using pages of manuscript to wedge a wobbly table leg.

“I would go to the apartment and frequently she was at that little place that she worked,” Margaret’s friend, Harvey Smith, later recalled. “We all joked about it: ‘Well, you know she’s writing the world’s greatest novel.’…And by God, she was.”

It seemed unlikely the novel would ever be published since Margaret was adamant about not revealing its existence to anyone. But another friend, Lois Cole, discovered that a novel lay in disordered chunks throughout “the Dump.” Cole, who had left Atlanta and taken a job at Macmillan Publishing in New York City, told her boss, Harold Latham, that her witty Atlanta friend might be concealing a literary treasure. “If she writes as well as she talks, it would be a honey,” Cole told Latham.

On a scouting trip to Atlanta in search of new Southern authors, Latham grilled Margaret Mitchell about the book he knew she had written. She steadfastly denied any knowledge of a book.

On his last day in Atlanta, Latham again asked Margaret about the book – this time in a car full of her friends. Again, she shrugged off his inquiry. But when Latham left the car at his hotel, the girls picked up the inquisition.

“Are you writing a book, Peggy?” one demanded. “How strange you’ve never said anything about it. Why didn’t you give it to Mr. Latham?”

Almost casually, Margaret replied that she thought the novel was “lousy, I was ashamed of it.”

The friend said archly, “Well, I dare say. Really, I wouldn’t take you for the type to write a successful book. You don’t take your life seriously enough to be a novelist.”

Stung by the remark, Margaret Mitchell raced home, gathered the scattered piles of manuscript, packed them into a suitcase, and roared back to the Georgian Terrace Hotel, called Latham to the lobby and said, “Take it before I change my mind.”

What Latham read was a panoramic novel of the Civil War and Reconstruction centered on a willful young woman named Pansy O’Hara. It had no first chapter – Margaret had written the last chapter first – and Latham decided he did not like the central character’s name. Margaret agreed to change the name to Scarlett. It was the beginning of the most successful novel in history, published on June 30, 1936. It had almost as much impact on Atlanta as the events it described.

“All the girls were busy reading,” recalled Pulitzer Prize-winning author George Goodwin. “You can’t imagine how that thing swept Atlanta in the summer of 1936. There were just lots of stories of people who stayed up all night to read it. I finally got a copy of it and I can understand why. Damn hard to put down.”

The novel had similar success throughout the United States and around the world. It won for Margaret Mitchell a Pulitzer Prize in 1937. It has sold more copies worldwide than any other book except the Bible.

Princess Hours (Korean: 궁, Hanja: 宫, romanized as Goong and also known as The Imperial Household, Love in Palace, Palace Love or Palace, its literal translation and alternate official title) is a popular soonjong manhwa (Korean girls' comic) by Park So-Hee. It was adapted into an even more well-known live-action comedy/drama series, which had its first season run from January 11 to March 30, 2006. It was distributed by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, which ran episodes on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week until the show's completion. The original manhwa (which, as of January 2009, has run for 17 volumes in Korea, and by 2012 17 in America) is being published in English as Goong, while the drama has been released on DVD in North America as Palace by YA Entertainment.

Princess Hours became one of MBC's most popular dramas of 2006, second only to Jumong[1]. Overall, the show was the tenth most popular drama of 2006, according to TNS Media. Due to the success of the first season, a second season was to be produced, a rare occasion in the Korean television industry. However, there was controversy over who had the rights to make the sequel, and as a result, two separate parties planned different seasons. However, the sequel, Goong 2 will no longer be produced due to the withdrawal of two main actors. The spin-off Goong S started its run on January 10, 2007.

Season 1

Set in an alternate 21st-century reality where Korea possesses a royal family, this show revolves around the lives of the Crown Prince (Hwangtaeja) Yi Shin, and his new bride, Chae-kyeong. The depicted royal family in the show is modelled after the last royal family of Korea, which in reality reigned until the start of the Japanese Occupation in 1911 and was not reinstated after Japanese surrender in WW2.

The series starts off with the news that the King, Shin's father, is very ill. With the grim outlook on the King's health, the royal family scrambles to find a wife for Shin, so as to allow him to take over the royal throne if the situation requires. Despite being in love with another girl, the ambitious and talented ballerina Hyo-rin whom Shin initially proposed to (she rejects him to pursue her ballet dreams), Shin eventually marries a commoner to whom he was betrothed by his late grandfather in an old agreement with the girl's grandfather. Shin marries the headstrong yet lovable Chae-kyeong after Hyo-rin's rejection. Despite initially feeling nothing for Chae-kyeong, love eventually blossoms between the couple.

In the meantime, however, matters are further complicated with the return of Yi Yul and his mother Lady Hwa-Young, who was once the Crown Princess (Bingoong) before the death of her husband, the late Crown Prince, older brother of the current King. Yul and his mother were chased out of the palace some time after the death of his father, and it is later revealed that this was due to the King's discovery of an affair between Yul's mother and the current King who was his father's younger brother. Yul's mother had returned with a sinister motive in mind; to restore her son back to the throne, which would have been his eventually, if his father had not died. A series of events befall the palace with the schemes Yul's mother carries out, and is further intensified by the various scandals involving the royal family, which are inclusive of the Shin's continuing relationship with his old flame Hyo-rin, and the budding love Yul develops for Chae-kyeong, his cousin's new-found bride.

Portrayed by Yoon Eun Hye, Shin Chae-kyeong is a very creative and outgoing, normal high school girl. She attends the same school as Yi Shin, the Crown Prince of Korea. Her grandfather was best friends with the previous King. To honor his friend, the previous King dictated that Chae-kyeong is to become the Crown Princess, which means that she is to marry whoever is the Crown Prince at the time of the marriage (Yi Shin) . Although she often seems immature and irritating, she is a kindhearted, innocent, honest person. Often called "Pig" by her younger brother, Chae-kyeong marries the prince to save her family from bankruptcy. Her initial reaction to Yi Shin is one of irritation but she falls in love with him in the earlier part of the series, not knowing that he, in return, feels the same way, until the last few episodes. Although she regards Yi Yul only as a friend and cousin-in-law, he falls in love with her.

The crown prince of Korea, Yi Shin, as portrayed by model and actor Joo Ji Hoon, is seen as a smug, indifferent, insensitive young man. After getting rejected by his girlfriend when he proposes to her, he decides to go along with his elders' arranged marriage with Shin Chae-kyeong. At first, he was irritated by her naivete and enthusiasm, but as he recognizes how genuinely sweet she is, he begins to open his heart to her, and falls in love. Throughout the series, it becomes obvious that inside, he is just a lonely, sensitive, warm and kind young man. He also owns a teddy bear, Alfred, the only thing that he can let his guard down for, which is used as a focal point throughout the series. As his cousin re-enters the picture after being forced out of the country many years earlier, the prince quickly butts head with him, as Yi Yul is a contender not only for the throne, but for the crown princess Chae-kyeong's love. Chae-kyeong does not realize this until later on in the story.


Yi Yool
Kim Jeong Hoon plays Yi Yool, Shin's cousin. He returns from a long stay in England with his mother, the widow of the former crown prince. He is the opposite of Shin, he is warm, kindhearted, sweet, romantic, and charismatic -- an instant hit with the girls. Interested in Chae-kyeong, their friendship grows to love on his side, while she remains innocently unaware of it until much later. Although the position of the Crown Prince originally belonged to him, it was given to his cousin when Yool's father died in a car accident and his mother was found to have had an affair with his uncle, who she was originally in love with, but she decides to marry his brother, the crown prince, wanting her son to inherit the title of crown prince. Originally uninterested in the throne, Yool decides to follow his mother's wishes and compete with Shin for the throne after falling in love with Chae-kyeong. In the end, after realizing that Chae-kyeong and Shin truly love each other, and after discovering his mother's affair with the King, he passes up both the chance of being King and having Chae-kyeong as a wife.


Min Hyo-rin
Portrayed by Song Ji Hyo, Hyo-rin is a skilled ballerina. She is beautiful, intelligent, accomplished--basically, perfect in every way possible,but she is also poor. Prince Shin and her ballet instructor paid for her tuition fees at school. In the beginning, she is Shin's girlfriend, and he proposes to her. However, she rejects him, not only because she thinks he is joking, but also because she does not wish to give up her dreams of becoming a star ballerina. When she sees Chae-kyeong and Shin's wedding and how Chae-kyeong is loved by the people (similar to Diana, Princess of Wales), she regrets her hasty decision, and does everything she can to oust Chae-kyeong from her position. Hyo-rin finds ways to draw Shin back to her, including a "chance" meeting in Thailand, but simply ends up hurting herself, resulting in attempting suicide. Later, however, she decides that Shin does truly love Chae-kyeong, and she ultimately gives him up and decides to just concentrate on her ballet.

Yoon, Eun-Hye (born October 3,1984) is a South Korean actress, singer, and model. She debuted as a member of the popular girl group Baby V.O.X, staying with the group from 1999 - 2005. She has since moved on to acting, receiving popularity and fame from her role as a crown princess on the drama Princess Hours, also known as "Goong", as well as her role as the main protagonist in the highly successful drama, The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince. She is a sufferer of Pernicious Anaemia, a disease that causes great weakness, clumsiness and possible death in the patient if left untreated.

In addition to her acting and singing, Yoon Eun-Hye graduated from Kyung Hee Cyber University in February 2007, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, specializing in Tourism Management.


Yoon Eun-Hye has played a small role on the sitcom "Nonstop Four", where she had a small role with MC Mong, before moving on to became a regular guest for the variety show X-Man on SBS. While on "X-Man", she became involved in a romantic scandal with popular K-pop singer Kim Jong Kook which received coverage from a local newspaper. Although "X-Man" raised her public profile, she left the show a year later in order to pursue acting. Eun Hye also played Kim Jong Kook's love interest in his music video "Saying You Love Me" which was released in July 2006.

Eun Hye had her first major acting role in popular Korean drama, Princess Hours (also known as Goong). Initially, fans of Goong had questioned her acting ability, which lead to controversy.The success of the drama also appeared unclear as it competed with My Girl which also boasted casting of popular celebrities such as Lee Jun Ki and Lee Dong Wook. The drama began with average ratings, but as it continued, viewership increased to 28.3% nationally, leading to an extension of the first season (from 20 to 24 episodes) and a Princess Hours special on MBC. Although Yoon and the other main actors initially agreed to work on a second season of Princess Hours, only one of them officially agreed to do so. Another director of a different company eventually filmed a spin-off series with brand new characters, known as Goong S which was not to be confused with the actual Goong sequel planned by the original director and company.

Due to the success of her first drama, Yoon has been able to continue acting in other dramas such as The Vineyard Man. Like most Korean dramas at that time[citation needed], The Vineyard Man initially suffered from low ratings due to strong competition from the MBC 45th anniversary drama Jumong; however, the drama ratings gradually increased and reached a successful 15.6% on its finale.

Yoon's second lead role was for MBC's Monday/Tuesday drama The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince that started airing in July 2007, where she plays the employee Go Eun-chan at a coffee shop, who was once a master of Taekwondo. With her short haircut and tomboyish ways, she is presumed to be a boy by the owner of the shop, thus leading to romantic complications.The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince garnered higher ratings than her first series Princess Hours. Coffee Prince reached the viewership ratings as high as 32.1% in Seoul, making it number one for it's timeslot in MBC and 29.9% nationwide. During the time of her popularity peaking, Yoon was also diagnosed with Pernicious anemia.

Complications also ventured out around the same time with Yoon's own management company. Although the producer initially planned to produce a Princess Hours 2, a fued evolved and Yoon eventually filed the second certification of contents (COC) to cancel her contractual agreement with her management company, Eight Peaks. When asked to reveal the information behind the second COC, Yoon's counsel stated, "if Eight Peaks refused to cancel the contract then they would not hesitate to file a lawsuit, suing them for their refusal." The contents of the first COC stated that in January 2007 Yoon was confirmed to be starring in the MBC drama Que Sera Sera and had even participated and completed the script reading and rehearsal for the upcoming shoot. However, Eight Peaks had cancelled Yoon's involvement in Que Sera, Sera in order for Yoon to star in Princess Hours 2, which is Eight Peaks' self produced drama.

Consequently, after the cancellation of Yoon's involvement in Que Sera, Sera, Yoon took a two day vacation to Gangwon-do in March. Eight Peaks claimed that they had no knowledge of this so-called incident and spread a rumor of Yoon's irresponsibility online which damaged her reputation. Yoon's manager, Park Geun-Soo has stated "the second COC includes evidence to support the disagreeable actions made by Eight Peaks." Those actions included the improper handling and distribution/division of earnings and proceeds as well as the unilateral (one-sided) manner of making and carrying out decisions which caused immense problems.

After it had been reported that Yoon was paid 20 million won per episode for starring in Coffee Prince, she was enable to join South Korea's A-list of stars who also are members of the 20 million won club, which includes of Bae Yong-joon, Kwon Sang Woo, Ko Hyun Jung, and Song Il kook. Due to the success of Coffee Prince, Yoon Eun Hye got a huge fan following not only in Korea, but also in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and China. She has recently visited Japan to meet her fans and inaugrate her fan club. Her growing popularity can also be seen in the Korean entertainment as many business conglomerates are vying to get Eun Hye to be the product ambassador, where she was later dub as the "CF Queen" in Korea.

After having settled the disputes with Eight Peaks through careful negotiation, Yoon later sign with her new management agency, Kraze Entertainment. As a result, she was able to focus on her acting career, which will be Kraze Entertainment's focal point of attention. Her successful performance in 'Coffee Prince', has put her in the list of being one of the best actresses in Korean entertainment.

Film Pan's Labyrinth besutan sutradara asal Meksiko, Guillermo Del Toro, terpilih menjadi film terbaik 2006 versi National Society of Film Critics. Terinspirasi dari mitos Roman yang sarat tentang mahluk-mahluk seperti faun, peri, dan monster mengerikan lainnya, film ini juga dibintangi Maribel Verdu, yang juga bermain dalam Y Tu Mama Tambien. Akan lebih menyenangkan menonton film bagus ini di bioskop, dengan special effect dan sinematografi yang memang patut berjaya di Academy Awards.

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born on July 23rd, 1989 to Alan Radcliffe and Marcia Gresham. He began performing in small school productions as a young boy. Soon enough, he landed a role in David Copperfield (1999) (TV), as the young David Copperfield. A couple of years later, he landed a role as Mark Pendel in The Tailor of Panama (2001), the son of Harry and Louisa Pendel (Geoffrey Rush and Jamie Lee Curtis). Lee Curtis had indeed pointed out to Daniel's mother that he could be Harry Potter himself. A long time ago, when everything was new, all children played without fear.
To some of his children Tunkasina (Grandfather) had given strong eyes, and they liked the heat of the day. For these children Tunkasina put a big light in the sky, and they ran free over the prairie.

Other children had weaker eyes. They liked to play in the leaves and in the grasses under the trees. For these children Tunkasina put a little light in the sky, and it came out, when these children woke at the end of the day.

Everyone was satisfied. Day followed night, and night came after the day. No one had to worry. Tunkasina was happy, and he always came to visit.

His work was good.

But, then, something terrible happened.





One night the little light did not show up ! ! ! ! !

Deep darkness was everywhere. The night-children went outside, but right away they were lost. They ran back and forth, and their crying woke up the whole camp. Fathers could not find their sons, and mothers could not find their daughters.

Fear shook everyone. They had never felt this way before, and they didn't know what to do. Fear was like a damp fog creeping over everyone. It chilled the bones of the worn, old men. It confused the senses of the trusted, wise men.

Everyone kept turning around and looking over his shoulder. There was great danger.

Tunkasina heard the cries of his children and the running footsteps of the parents. He also felt the danger that was threatening his children.

He rushed down from his place to see what had happened.

He looked and looked -- and THERE IT WAS ! ! ! ! The sky was empty......There was no little light in the sky.

And he began searching for her. He looked and looked.....And then he found her.

She was sleeping with another man. She had been unfaithful to him, and she had neglected his children. When he found her it was terrible. He dragged her from the bed and tore her over rocks. He beat her and pounded her. He shook her and slapped her. He punished her and he shamed her.

Then he threw her away ! ! ! ! !

That was a long time ago.

Look at her now.

You can see that she is wandering here and there in the night. And she still has the marks and the bruises on her.

She will never be the same again.

She is shamed. When she gets close to the big light, watch her. She will hide her face. And, when she is far from the big light, she will look out again.

Maybe someday Tunkasina will take her back again.

This is how Fear -- Evil -- came to the children that Tunkasina always wanted to be happy.
